In the old days of the web and marketing, a company was generally in control of the message distributed to the consumer. Word of moth was slow to travel and aside from some major news or television exposé, a company's brand was safe from harm. Therefore, large corporations dominated the market, as they had the largest budgets for mainstream media airtime. Today, the introduction of numerous avenues for consumer input has given a great deal of this power to the consumer. In the world of Web 2.0, the public image of any corporation is largely in the hands of its consumers. With the evolution of social networking, blogging, wikis and with consumer reviews built into any reputable ecommerce shopping software, the largest impact on consumer decisions now comes from this plethora of available reviews online.

Operations

The goal is to achieve greater sales and profits through the expansion of brand awareness and continually improving our operations. Customer word of mouth is a great resource and by no means should be disregarded. However, in my experience it alone will not bring you enough customers to see profitable business growth. In order to increase sales we have to find a way to reach our potential clients on a fixed budget and see results. A business that is stagnant is doomed to eventually fail. We must continually look at our operation and find ways to improve teamwork, cut back overhead, streamline our processes, and we must find ways to show our hard working employees we appreciate their dedication.
